" Lotta guys doing that. Not a gatlin didn't. -- But only one album was -- snake. For those of us that have just learned about coach Bryant and didn't get to see him. The way you did we've seen all things -- how hard practice was especially in the pre season there have been. Movies about that how hard was he's -- place for."
" When he was he was hard to play as far as a very intimidating happen -- I don't I don't see that tracks is being anything that they needed and expected Alabama to get to work hard you know you have to work hard for coach brown and you have to work hard in order to be to be a championship team you know that's. Just pounded and -- from the day you pick up a ball by your coaches and had a great pass to coaches taught me that coach -- the same way it is not going to be easy nothing is easy. And then he was easy and everybody would have you know it's always that you don't have to work hard for is going to be a lot of competition and there are no short cuts and things like that how those life lessons that you always he would always your coach brown mark out of practice in a meeting in things like that little. Little things a little life lessons sayings that he would use all the time did he teach you particular life lesson that might have been different from others or was there a bear Bryant wall that you ran into some point it's hard to go through I think everybody does -- as well -- some point and I think some people run into a little bit harder than others. You know I hate he had me what he taught me was is that there's nobody's any more important the team to solve the team concept we're all playing for -- for each other and it's a team thing and and you have to conform to his rules and if you don't conform to his rules and you can't like this team and I went through that with coach brown was suspended back coach brown in. And that taught me that buried that that valuable lesson that he not be exactly what's coming out of my junior year I was if the Sugar Bowl MVP and in that I was a hot -- player and that sort of thing into -- front grabbed me in the back of connecting kick me in the butt kicked me -- and made me realize when I was about to throw away when I was very capable of throwing away. And made me realize that and as a result. You know you have a great career at Alabama when you win championships -- SEC titles and national championships and you get to go to the next level pro football without coach -- discipline. I'm not sure that I that I get that opportunity. Last night I was told ask you about coach Bryant and the couch. Well -- suspended and he went salmon is four for not been going to his rules as we just talked about you know and then I'd come back to summer school and become eligible to play by SEC standards that did that and had to do the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life and legally and sydor from a coach brown and tell him that come back to summer school that become eligible back. SEC standards to play football and I wanted to come back out for the team Louisville and coach Brown's office is this example kind of a pedestal as kind of raised. And you sit and account shredded front of his desk is cereals soft couch when you sit down you sick about two feet into this couch -- look at coach round like this. You know I've got to come back here and tell him that you know that I was eligible to play and give his -- to come back out but like again that's the hardest thing that I had to do -- go in there. Monica that this god like figure and -- tell him that I wanted to come back now that you've made it through. We made it through it and that he came back out the team in any put me through you put me through a rough time coming back out you know and Alabama color Jersey BQ where dictates. The team Ichiro red team is a first team is red team and white Jersey second team -- Jersey thirteen maybe green Jersey fourteenth. Orange Jersey fifteen brown Jersey last team. And I came back after dollar CC year MVP and sure to vote -- a brown Jersey. My senior year I have to work my way through all those jerseys and it was that -- it was fun and it was this is physical and and then great life lessons."
" Alabama is involved in one of the great rivalries in all of sports. The rivalry with -- all burned and your senior year the iron bowl of 1967. You were involved in a play that simply referred to as the run in the mud can you take this back -- that rainy day legion field that game that rivalry that play."
" They have a good thing about that -- the thing that I remember most about the entire game always with with what coach brown said practice games everything that he said came through everything the state came true because of the weather conditions and no legion field in a sloppy track. Nasty conditions we're not going to -- not going to throw the ball. We're going to run the ball with a -- the kicking game it was going to play for field position and NEC and Auburn will screw up the kicking game. If you look back on the game they mishandled to feel those snaps didn't do anything out of it they snapped the ball over Tommy lunch for the -- they snap the ball over -- We got the ball about midfield and they were able to work the ball down and there for the for the score to win the game it. I think that I remember was coach -- everything you -- it came true we only threw the ball five times three for fact that they for about ten yards. And we just ran the ball ran the ball get the ball and the ball -- about it tomorrow waiting for and offered mistake. To give us field position and take advantage of the field position and that's exactly what happened it was just a simple option play to the strong side of the formation. Take the ball go right down the line of scrimmage. You give the fullback one step of motion with you he'll. You take the Volvo right now and -- scrimmage and you picture keeping whatever the down in the line of scrimmage makes you do if you jump -- the other pitchers. If he takes a pitch man -- that these that the pitch man I turned the ball up in his home and Armstrong -- receiver on the right and -- He came in a great block on the safety and me just turn the safety and sat out closer like running its -- bosh bosh and I was not a fast runner -- you know just you have rundown -- down the sidelines and uses that land is your friend and run to the corner of the flag before the safety can get -- the new assistant. You know I don't know what -- down and distance was his 47 yards -- think of 43 yard option play for a touchdown and what about I guess average six minutes left in the game in our defense as you mentioned earlier you know that he fits in Alabama has just been. Terrific a junior your defense they gave up 37 points to hold here the whole year -- all I gotta do score wants to win. Oh what's it like to not just participate -- like that but to have one of the great moments in the history of the rivalry. Associated always be a part of it is is -- the main thing you notice the effect if you're part of the Alabama family and the understanding that 360 fab day Iraq rivalry is. Allowed -- and and you deal with it on a daily basis on a daily basis you know you -- see the pharmacists -- Auburn guys. The doctors and lawyers -- Alabama guys that engineers you know that you know that that the veterinarians you know you go take your dog he had listened to it you know south. You feel it every day at some point in town that rivalry and it's just it's wonderful you know people bring their children home from the hospital in. Written why our engine blew it that it did is put on them when they come out of the womb you know say and -- And this is alive and well and in the end fund to be a part of that answer your question to have a memorable play. You know the opportunity to play for coach brown to play for the Alabama family in the Alabama tradition and have a a memorable play that we instant wins to be -- I -- to relive it every day is a great test and great satisfaction. I didn't -- back on a daily basis."
