" Giants eleven downtown Orlando on church street really stone's throw away from the new events senator soon to be underway here in Central Florida but pat. Dislocation. Is very important in Orlando Magic history why. When it was such -- needs but church street station was alive and vibrant tourists from all over the world were coming here. And the Cheyenne saloon and all of its magnificence. Whenever we had a major event we would generally hold it right here. Long before the -- insulin became a part of magic history a casual conversation sparked the effort to bring the NBA to Orlando. That Philadelphia seventy sixers general manager Pat Williams was riding to the Orlando airport with the local businessman -- Hewitt and John Olsen. And I just erratic question I said there would be NBA ever going to Florida. And of both of that sit here on actual where were you put the team Miami or Tampa. And both of them wheeled around on me like I had made the biggest insult they submit their place it's here in Orlando. Season."

" In holiday coming you don't have an arena. Facet that we're getting ready to build more easily Jimmie -- will be built. And I said well it'll be built. In 1991. Night used to another be too -- it's going to be like -- and you know so let me tell you and -- progressive there. And our county chairman we can do whatever creative financing we need to do political leaders or attached to get it done."

" I mean the next thing I know Jimmy -- it is running with this thing I mean this little idea I just threw out there out of nowhere. That Jimy running -- it like a Florida State running back in the open field stiff arming people moving in. And as the fall of 85 went on I came back down here to meet with the mayor. And and another speaking engagement and I'm getting this update about it new arena and he's putting ownership together and looped. A key first step for Hewitt and company was to meet with NBA commissioner David Stern. Stern was warm to the idea so the group move forward with -- efforts to obtain NBA expansion franchise for the city of Orlando. And then and then as the we've moved -- to 86. You know we're in the playoffs and Philadelphia get a call from -- one night. Think -- we -- a better part of this as we can go always said if he'll come down and headed up beach and we'll go forward. --"

" And I made the decision to come. And in mid June of 1986 we made the announcement we're going to court."

" We met there then be exposed manner and we told them that. That we were in the running. I'm there with pat and he's got a sure you know as coach and dial and also and he takes his coach at all and but this year and there it is right there going to black on our way to the NBA. William."

" Was ward broke proclamation was just the initial sales pitch Orlando basketball limited with the 14000. Season tickets. Each one sealed with a 100 dollar deposit divorced yes so I remember writing. NBA basketball isn't going to work here is a football town where football state. But Pat Williams changed all he got people excited. You know I don't I really don't think -- that has blown smoke to have for pat but I don't think this franchise would've happened if pat wouldn't of being here. He was the one that originally drummed up the interest -- Hugo was the owner but pat was the one they got people in this town excited about buying this first season ticket. Ticket sales efforts were not stop. Williams engaged celebrities and help frequent press conference system mark milestones and whatever it sought to keep the momentum going. So we had -- hit when we did because the owners meetings in the early fall of 867 Arizona that was that was. The moment of truth that we've missed that little window if we wouldn't be sitting here today."
