" veteran car owner Roger Penske came to win total fresh off his first wins the Daytona 512 hours of Sebring. So far this year they scored his fifteenth Indy 500 winners of over his cup team appears poised for a lot of its first ever title. His -- championship winning sports car team has jumped over to Daytona prototypes. And in his spare time the captain made national news like why in the Saturn automobile -- prevailing General Motors. But he has to wonder who. Why would want to put the mark consul sort of -- genes somewhere."

" Roger joins us from Toronto were the Indy cars ran this afternoon Roger welcome back when so much to see you again. Well Davis -- can be here always great three on your show. Your guys Ryan Briscoe wolf are finishing second -- did a good job but all the talk of course is above video. The collision between daily over the local Trevor Paul Tracy a -- did you have to get countered with some extra security to get him out of Toronto Canada. Well okay there's a lot to go and -- what I wanted to happen but -- in his solid two of them walk out his arm and arm after the accident I -- that slowed everything down but you've you've done wonders with -- I can remember where he was going to -- store for this series. Column let's go back to Europe it took to the mid sixties. You're accomplished road British driver yourself and in just a couple of years time. He retired from driving watershed leadership -- racing team with Mark -- his driver and won your first championship as an -- Was all of that planned in advance or was there are some improvisation -- ball belonged to him."

" Well I think Dave you know I would I love bracing myself so but I had a job and unfortunately I don't -- not had a chance to go to the speedway. To take a test but I had my job and would let me go there's so Andretti took. That's that's what Jim McGee into LeBron -- so I thought that for my racing experience and taking business and trying to -- together -- racing with people like Kendrick have done. Roush has done really would pay often. I guess that was a right decision to make because I'd probably get hired drivers are a lot better than I am not going to."

" I -- thirty odd years later year old underwear go to year old Clark company would job has prompted this email follow through somebody who I think made a villa fan of the decisions as day -- mr. -- Why on earth you would purchase Saturn as opposed to potty yet but very iconic brand that is an awesome piece. Of American history it's on Pontiac owner tell us why not -- how -- they are why Saturn and how are you going to make it work or GM couldn't."

" I think Dave you gotta step back in his I look at the brand itself Saturday have been run as an independent organization they have. 350 rooftops -- gators and 200 owners and I think kept hiding it's an iconic brand an opportunity there. Because of business had been separate from GM for so many years it gives us a chance to line get contract manufacturing will have. Two years a product from GM's. And then we'll we'll do a search around the world to try to get product will fit into the marketplace as a Saturn brand but again it's a great opportunity for us -- in the due diligence stage. We expect to close the transaction. Sometime by the end of the third quarter we've had great cooperation. From General Motors and certainly support from the government. You have a --"

" Stark contract with dodge so it was no surprise to you quickly dispelled rumors that but Kurt Busch's COT martyrdom for the Saturn logo. But we also know the racing news of the unifying thread and in all of your company's. Do you have any ideas about how -- might go racing this Saturday morning on Sunday at some point and its future. Helped dealers sell on Monday."

" Well I'll say you know it's gone through my head more than once as you might expect and gets down on the list so we've got a lot of work to do to try to stabilize a dealer network get good product into the marketplace but. I would hope at some point there might be a Saturn around the racetrack. Doing something as you know the Saturn -- today is the same body that's Chevrolet Malibu so. Basically we have a Jesse now we gotta get an engine. -- Kurt Busch following up on NASCAR fourth -- cup points looks more like a title contender than at any joins us to Georgia team. What is your Sprint Cup team doing this year to be more competitive what's changed. Well I think that as you know Curtis a fantastic driver -- again as you know what. To get in that chase is our big step and were sitting in fourth place -- like the results last night but obviously it wouldn't Kirk's fault. We did you have a bit of math on another subject and came up with a -- remarkable piece of good information. You're dealerships worldwide sell 39 different brands of cars if we counted correctly that leads to the obvious question. What you're daily driver if you're driving yourself to work forty and drive and I think. -- go to both ends up -- in my smart car right now and I have a Bentley GT so I guess I go at both left and by the way I was drive and -- Saturn the last two XL you know probably a number of cars in the garage we represented as you say almost forty brands worldwide and again that. You know these are different products we have brand managers that are coming you're committed to those brands. And it's been a great opportunity for us and great manufactures and we hope we can support them. For a long time surely the Saturn opportunity from a distributor standpoint similar to what we're doing. With smart I think it's going to give us some differentiation from the other public retailers."

" Yes Roger Penske does have a lottery is -- just inappropriate action news Rolex sports car team. It forces to fiftieth Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham that's next Sunday. That it relies on speed at 3 o'clock. Eastern time as Roger joins us tonight promo Toronto was talks sports cars are when your team moved from Baylor roster grand am after winning the racing porsches do -- one car. Now the rumor also is not project is -- today is that true and being what is the plan for team Penske Americans --"

" Well I think Dave if you look at the current economic environment certainly for the motor cart companies in the cost. I'm going to. In 2010. I think that that's going to be a project is probably been pushed off. For number years and as far as we're concerned we know we're competing. This year and the grand am it's a great series very competitive. When enabling it to the finish line in first but depth. Very competitive and I think gap hard decision to use a Porsche -- has been very interesting things up. Moved our rpm up and down a couple of times taken six fairways for myself maybe we're back in stride and we'll see if we can't do -- barber -- got the same two great drivers. Timo Bernhard in Rome on new -- and depth I'd take my hat off to get messy end up. Certainly other teams were competing was very very competitive in fact I'd say it's almost like some cases like NASCAR on the road course."

" What about the impact of the economy. On juror -- teams and you have a huge operation requires. A terrific amount of sponsored dollar to keep it rolling. Are you suffering through this through this downturn."

" Well I would say yes so there's no question that it is all sponsors. You know look at their budgets. No the main thing you have to do what you talked of sponsors are you getting value for money because. You know obviously the companies we've been associated with for many years -- Marmol what is it about Philip Morris up. You know Miller Brewing Co. and now -- you know these companies. Have marketing budgets but they've got to be sure there are getting what they paid for from the standpoint of internal capability and also external. The worst thing that we've taken cost out will continue to do that. I think we're going to see lots of things happen as we go forward I'm not sure. Because many contracts you're going to be up for the next two to three years for all of us and as we go through those we're going to have to be sure that we've been able to approve. But the relationships are positive. And they give an economic benefit to the sponsors because you know racing has grown to the level and has -- it's been some world class fortune 500 company supporting. Many of the teams and I think the sponsorships. You know of these series is important. But again you know people talk about racing."
