" Hi everybody I am -- the bracket we are pleased and -- be joined by foxsports.com. National columnist Jason whitlock and I've I've always wanted to ask you this seems like everything you touch everything right. Controversy in one way or another is is that intentional on your party gets drawn to these well hooked. Opt not. Trying to be controversial. But my mind works differently. And I'm trying to write original thought and original perspective. And soul of the fact that I think differently the fact that I'm trying to be original. People think it's controversial. But I think when they sit down if they said down in my you really thought about what I had written it's not all that controversial with his one man's perspective. It's one man's version of common sense. So no I'm not trying to be controversial I'm just mostly. Try to be original I'm trying not to write what everyone else is right we're a very competitive time and sports media media in general. And and most people have a very traditional taste. That a lot of people -- limited. I'm to try to be original people that call a controversial. I call it just wouldn't work now after that that time."
" Controversy -- is go a -- women's basketball players you wrote about this on new civil rights movement amongst African Americans. A couple of years ago and you still don't believe tonight."
" All I certainly believe in a new civil rights movement of traffic America's I think -- seen evidence of it. Right now with Barack Obama being elect a president I think -- even greater example of what Tony Dungy is doing for Michael Vick. And -- Tony Dungy elevate his profile as someone with a social conscious moving out of coaching in the someone. More in the role like Mohammed Ali or Jim Brown -- are. -- doctor here Edwards in the sixties or seventies. You're seeing someone with a lot more credibility than Jesse Jackson Al Sharpton. Get involved. In in something like the Michael vick's situation where Jesse Jackson. You know come as a school Molotov cocktail -- Clarkson pay. You know there's collusion and they're being races against Michael Vick where's Tony Dungy got involved. Actually. Help Michael Vick reenter the league and serving as a mandatory camp. That's the kind of new civil rights movement -- talk about that that that's away from just. Criticizing. And and trying to blast people and actually trying to get things accomplish."
" No more productive kind of solution yeah. Are you ready for the Kansas City Star indirect for foxsports.com. I know it's a perception out there into the bottom lines a lot -- around the country say that. In a way newspaper is dying when you write for the Internet you -- for print. Do you use the same style and approach to both."
" What null of because one newspapers don't allow it and and newspapers. Are trying to be all things to all people and in and they're worried about being comprehensive more than being compelling. When you write for a web site there concerns about being compelling writing something they will give people read -- people to react. Something with say -- that's not a sophisticated as what a newspaper does. No a lot of what happens in the newspapers is very boring dumb down and blame him. So that -- five year old grandmother -- subscriber. Can digested and enjoy it into a fifteen year old kid can digest it and enjoy it when you write for a web site. Particular sports website you writing for men basically 25 to 54. And you don't have to be as concerned about paid that I do something across laden might make a grandmother or grandfather on comparable. So you just it's more freer it's more on us is more wrong. It's would need newspapers need to get to. But you know made -- week -- they were locked in to a system. It in newspapers where we have to be all things all people. And and now we're in a -- world that the Internet has made everything very this if it. If you want to sign a purple ties to wear out tonight. You basically go to Google and type in work and I get purple tie is that specific. M and the same thing that's what's -- with journalism people wants the that the thing and Indian newspapers are trying to be all things everybody."
" We'll -- even the purple tie and an ability to think of a you know and that not a month goes by I worry if there's not a public fight between you and a blogger and am just wondering why. Somebody with your credentials. Might go after my pick of I was somebody on the journalistic fringe like that may be. Elevate their status to. Well."
" have been going back and forth for quite some time. And and I don't see them has been on the friends I bowl I need this bit. It's having significant impact on sports -- and they need to be held accountable for some of the things that they do that are inappropriate and unfair. Some of the things it to a great -- of the ivory does not allowed found that I laugh out loud and I'm glad -- clicked over there on the what they do is very unfair to -- to the young guys. No one really policing them a lot of people and we -- afraid of them. I'm not and so I while I'm trying to -- the rest of the media to not be afraid of this -- But the hold them accountable for some of the unfair stuff that they do. That's a lot of I don't have a problem going to fight because if if not for me. They would just go on doing a lot of things that they do. And know what whatever questionable on it I think we've made a mistake sometimes abeyance nobly and take him hey they're beneath -- beneath us. -- readers and many of you have influence over our readers. It's just like old school journalism that the original people in the media were. Known as watchdog now -- there's watchdogs watching the other media right and we needed because the media's become part of the story I think. A lot of how we've been in denial of that fact. But fans sports fans they're very interested in what we do who we are what motivates us what engines as we have. As journalists it's part of the story the media is now part of the store and many looks on the guys in the -- are bigger than some of the athletes on the field. They made more money they imports would team of coaches organizations do. So yeah we definitely need to be watts and and held accountable for actions I might think he's right I think he's probably you'll always find him interesting Jason whitlock thank you for being with us and catch I was work. On foxsports.com."
