" This week on coach speak with Brian Billick presented by Sam -- Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips we'll talk about the opening game the Cowboys Stadium. Rex Ryan discussed as the jets' big win over the Patriots plus Jim zorn on the redskins' offensive struck. All that I'm more coach speak with Brian Billick presented by Sam -- Hi Brian Billick. "

" Welcome this addition of coach speak presented by -- got a great group of coaches division with today gonna start off with Rex Ryan coming off the huge win in the meadowlands. Against New England Patriots first time the Jets have done so in eight tries at home against the New England Patriots. Big chance talked to Jim zorn his perspective. Come -- awful hard fought close win with his with Washington Redskins that we're gonna get a chance talked to Wade Phillips obviously christening a new stadium in Dallas. And then finish up with John Fox of Carolina Panthers. While we're gonna talk with all the coaches. But a number of different subjects managing expectations for your team. Not good young running backs in the league right now obviously dealing with crowd noise -- big issue around the league right now. And dealing with injury reports we're seeing the hubbub in the press about who reported what it what does this means we're gonna cover all these things this week on coach speak are excited about being joined for the first time out a good friend Rex Ryan the toast of the time now. You know for awhile there it today it was you know as they head coach and Rex with the guys that work for now I've I've just got it happens you know Rex Ryan I've just. I must -- here the we'll -- you gotta you gotta love what though life about right now."

" Well that's true you know it really we got a great team we got a great coaching staff and you know some things that I learned under you I mean surround yourself what what the best staff that you can get. And I think we've done that here I think it's it's funny that. When you don't you know put as a staff together you have names certain names that you you try to did or you did you know envision getting and then. You know when I came here I had some opportunities some. Maybe I never realized that have these opportunities to keep the bill Callahan and to keep -- Brian Schottenheimer might west often. So we're really fortunate and you know it's a good blend of some guys who were here before some new guys coming in obviously bring in Mike -- in to head up our defense and and Dennis Thurman. You know also it it's a great -- guys are working great together."

" Obviously you're you're you're near the toast of the town here or did you just keep the same sweats and just. Put the Jets problem right over the top of that actually a new set of what. These are my dress sweats you. A but you know I don't wear these just for anybody now I don't know about the candidates. Via appreciate. You know watch your game a little bit -- jumped out of me how aggressive you were at the end of the game. But clearly you you made the calculated decision this is not the way he was that because of what you saw the Buffalo game the way Brady tore that up from what. What led you to be that aggressive at the end of the game."

" Well it's funny his you know a couple of years ago when we played New England. -- corners would have been healthy. You know we would have done the same thing then we've played him for three quarters doing really well and then we have you know one of our corners Chris -- that me. And things so we really weren't allowed depression -- kept thinking to myself man I just wanted to feel the pressure and so I had that opportunity and and now. We are actually down to DBs. You know during -- game. But we have enough depth that. We were able that to maintain that pressure and I just never wanted him to feel comfortable back there and his I've seen it happen so many times really this -- you apart and it. I this out that that we can get there with our pressures and that the wrist really wasn't that. That big because that I thought we get home wanna pressures."

" Obviously what Mark Sanchez is doing. And I mean the analogies have been made all year that okay well Rex came in from Baltimore and the like a Flacco the play good defense to run the ball and talk about. How you was a defense of guy now and and and as head coach have to. Communicated deal with not only what hit him as a person but the expectations and in the Big Apple -- of all the places to be doing this. You know the better he does the -- just gonna keep coming you know coming down on his shoulders -- about the next -- name but the next -- the next that how do you help them manage all that."

" Well the great thing is that I think first off. We we knew what we're getting -- we did a great job us down in this this young man out we spent tons of time with them. -- and in your exactly right because it's it's gonna take a special person the plate. You know number one of they're coming here -- rookie. And start in the National Football League but doing it here and under this media spotlight all like kind of stuff. You you've got to have all all together and in this young man you know seems to you know seems to have -- he's poised beyond belief. He can make all the passes he's got all the physical. Skills but he's got a great you know he's got great awareness in the pocket. And I think that's the biggest thing that I see from -- a young quarterback he doesn't move like a young quarterback you know he's. He -- the -- stepped one way slide one way to avoid a rush and then he he keeps his eyes down the field focuses down field. You know we're fortunate have an outstanding offensive line in front of home. And we got some good running backs in and really an underrated receiving corps. Old but it's really team effort in this in this young man is you know just go out play quarterback this lawyer's advice I give them."

" meant that that my pin are you a couple weeks okay did -- figure out -- sweatsuit. I'll just up or you get. Here but we're agreement -- I would -- giant. Cucumber. Let's talk about."

" Most popular blitzes in the game that you -- Republicans go back dom capers I'm in Carolina back in the war. Talk about Dick LeBeau one best defense we're players in history this game for years in Pittsburgh utilizing them don't want to blitz. Basically what that is is a running back -- typically might be responsible. Important inside outside Akron that. Like she didn't want rough and green and reviews clean house side we typically do it anyway the quarterback's not. Quarterback is not -- world war veteran running back now have to hesitate to stamp inside linebacker. Outside linebacker all the way out if one if you're turning your protection back to the weak side draft apple cart. Take division extremely wide much wider than you're doing -- can be very effective on the outside now. Teams will now say okay you're gonna freedom corner blitz possibly if you call hot -- We'll break off to dissect receiver he'll start yelling cap cash -- Tell the quarterback does that were forecast blitz and they'll typically maybe put him on pitch poured out the quarterback get the ball autos -- very quickly. What teams have got very sophisticated. They would change the free safety -- the outside and we've probably basically prevent him from hitting the ball deep. Down the outside he'll settle in my flight quarterback. And vibrate and it won't be outside. Linebacker now typically. Put his hand in the dirt take the step then come back underneath. And try to run underneath what they know is going to be -- out we'll break off so they're trying to bait you into this quarter blitz on the backside. That you think you've got an answer for it. And now they're gonna run right into the -- it and now with the offensive line rush end outside linebackers. Is gonna jump underneath the route because they know what they're adjustment is where they're very vulnerable is now off that's all for the the point where the quarterback -- this at a time. You -- institute of certain protection schemes were understandable. That's a long -- for the quarter to go one of the most popular things today. Is -- changed the protection scheme where the quarterback short staffed. Act like he's been give that little quick -- quick slant twelfth. You appreciate you step up and then run -- Colts logo flags go stutter go body outside receiver to Angela Merkel. Now I'm protected up you'll find that out I've got -- my tax accounting this quarter blitz I now have time quarterbacks taken deeper drop. -- now obviously you know big political. -- on the outside because I recognized that border where the Catholic."

" Still to come on coach -- Brian Billick presented by Samsung. Jim zorn dropped by the talk about big expectations in the nation's capital but more when we --"

" Welcome back coach speak presented by -- Up next is Jim zorn of the Washington redskins' Jim you're you're part of one of the storied franchises in the league and that always means -- comes agreed fueled expectations. And and you know as a former player as a coach it's hard to win in this league. But sometimes it's hard for the fans to really appreciate. Any kind of win. How do you deal with that with your your players so that they don't get irritated sometimes. With whether via national perception local perception because -- when you win it's not a matter of when and it's have you won by enough that you win in the way that they wanted you to win. Q do you deal with the players in trying to get them to understand that."

" Yeah I think we came in after the last game and it was quiet and here we just wanted to gain. And it was a little bit too quiet for me and those things that I talked about was appreciating every win you get no matter how it was done. There's going to be wins like this all around the league maybe for us. Later on later on in the early in the year so. Savor the wins enjoy the wins and then we had to also today. Look at in -- tale fashion what happens. And with all the blogs that we eaters though all the different types of Internet. Opportunities there. The thing that we have that tell our players is make sure you you question. Who you really believe. Because we we kind of know what's going on the picture was there at the -- You know that the film doesn't lie you've kind of -- it's all out their Soria. In a lot of times the fans that don't get either real replay in the end -- Media they don't get to see or understand at times what really happens are quite. You know I I think that. We have an excellent media group. And they want they wanna know so they can talk to the fans about exactly what happens well it's hard because sometimes. We we we breakdown in in different. In different situations and it it's hard so why I I -- make sure you know who you believe and then we need to pay attention to the details. Of all these place. And I and that would put our coaches I put myself. In that. In that bag of getting better and game. Kind of thing in the course because we are going places we did improve this week it just wasn't on the on the five yard line."

" What kind of mindset or what kind of specific focused you want your players to have. When you get down that scoring territory what's the priorities."

" the priorities are to make sure that the offense knows that. This whole that the red zone everything speeds up the temples a little quicker. The shots to the end zone in the run game everybody is much more. Intent you know your awareness is is definitely raised up and that the execution. Because red zone. Is not worked on every single day out of the week the execution of one single play can change the game where the -- or you don't score and -- we we talked about those things though that much awareness we talk about. Execution of that play and those that critical issues in the game we had we had a play. Yeah Sunday. That. That play what was happening a defender. Here are receiver and the receivers a little distorted the QB threw the ball the ball came so quick. These things happened so fast that he could react to the ball the ball bounced off of -- She should've been a touchdown. Probably. But you know I don't I don't necessarily rip the young man when he comes off the field because I saw all the planned and that ball was very. Quick to be caught in ones and I need it. You know about I need to also look at how -- calling things as well why. I don't discount the and that -- that formula. --"

" Jim thanks I appreciate it man we reported seeing LC this weekend that we all get him. Sounds good --"

" In this installment of how I see it presented by Sampson. -- talk about something was very disturbing to me the last couple weeks he's been saying some things that have happened off the field. That I think this -- is gonna put this week in jeopardy. When you talk about the drug testing Paul he would be games with the pat and Kevin Williams opened Minnesota and now they. A state court had an injunction that said that the league could not go forward with that with its a suspensions. It then we'll follow up on a federal court with the federal ruling. That limited the league in terms of its drug testing policy. This is very disturbing to me and what's especially disturbing is the fact that the union has become an adversary. In this effort to try to rid these types of things. Out of our game. I understand that the union needs to side with the players and do what's in their best interest but everybody agrees with a repeat they're. Quote unquote recreational drugs whether -- be vehicle performance enhancing drugs. It has no place in this game we can see that dilemma we can see the harm that it's doing. To Major League Baseball. Our programs in the National Football League have been held up on a pedestal as this is where we need to get to. They drag Roger Goodell and the other officials from the NFL in -- in before congress and dog and pony show. And then when they say you better get it right or we're gonna get involved they try to get it right and now the court systems both state and federal inject themselves and put handcuffs on the powers that be that would be able to get this type of thing under control it's very disturbing. I'm hoping that congress have actually wanna be helpful here that they'll bring the -- had to bring their. Power in to be able to help the -- the NFL Major League Baseball. Colleges as well. Addressed this very critical issue and not be an end conference and not be a road block to making sure that we keep the integrity of this game -- all time high. I'm Brian Billick this is my stance on TV and that's how I see it really pleased to be joined by by Wade Phillips the Dallas Cowboys you know that was. I know the outcome wasn't what you wanted to wage but that there was amazing to watch just the the opening of the stadium the the the crowd the the anxious to that everybody had did you have to kind of prepare your players for. This of that this mega event or did you just kind of say it's just two game -- time a school play."

" Well part of being the Giants have a little bit you know you're focused and onto the plan. So we've we did have to talk about than you know all the other peripheral things as stadium opening -- all and -- No we just need to concentrate on where what was done and there was an -- again."

" How do you hasn't and in this individual how do you with your coach is how do you with your players. A dress or deal with that just incredible almost insatiable. Expectations. War. A franchise a stored as cowboy."

" Well -- in some ways it's good you know I think. Haven't have an expert had occasion I have your team expect more. You know I like his high school teams -- in Texas where they expect from the warm of those table analog so. I don't mind that as much. I address it -- team is different each year's different and this is and -- this year you can have the same players he had the year before and when -- you know teams that -- Super Bowls and then during the in the playoffs next year and I have almost the same can so. That's that's my addressed this is this year's team this is this what we're gonna do this what our roles are. And go forward that way."

" Way to battled door and I appreciate it man will will see in a couple weeks I really appreciate you doing this how look forward to run of good and that."

" Still to come on coach speak with Brian Billick presented by Samsung -- box weighs in on the Panthers still young running back DeAngelo Williams that more when we come."

" Welcome back coach speak presented by Samsung lot of young running back talent out there in the league right now we asked all the coaches about the young running backs that impressed them the most."

" Chris Johnson maybe we will get some twice last year the first game I felt he totally out played. Tennessee analyze this young man has got explosive speed he's a guy that is a -- perimeter runner. He will hit it inside but then it really scares is that they'll serve when your defense when he does he's. Don't I think Frank Gore I I would still call him enough right there. Did a nice job last week he's explosive. Barbara -- Dallas very explosive. Even Peterson is pretty credible comfort zone. For us is something there's. It's unlike the last. For years ago with the class. Came out. A lot of --"

" That's just a few of the young backs that are making a name for themselves in the National Football League -- RC -- star segments presented by Sam. While those coaches that has won these great young running backs. Is a fine head coach the Carolina Panthers John Fox job thanks for joining us on my pleasure Brian is always a pleasure. One of the things we're talking about on the show is about there's a lot of great young running backs in the league right now and you've got one of them DeAngelo Williams. Talk to me a little bit about what he needs your team and and how much you've been George coach and."

" guy is young players you mentioned in last year was his breakout years you know he would do from. Basically got back up behind another player we had here in the past and last year got a big shot and he he made the biggest on the as far as has production."

" Yeah and and watching De'Angelo but I I see that the biggest problem you have is kind of get them come out of shelved talk a little bit. -- got to affect his personality and the RL and it was a great teammate players -- like -- and you're like this you don't have altered because he's fantastic runner everybody seems to be wanna go into the two back combination and and for a lot of different reasons. You've got Jonathan Stewart with yet another great young back you've got a great 12 punch all but the young set -- running backs. What why is that you think everybody's gravitating towards this two back system."

" I think it's a long season and it's. Expensive long running backs body. Ms. harper won back to carry it went about thirty times a game you know for sixteen games so you do do. You know couple quality backs and in our case says something we started way back in 03. You know we -- Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster and you know Steve went down and our playoff run and Jones step dad and we've been able to do that. You know with the Angelo Johnson."

" Now anytime we talked to back at least my experiences and stories about the touches and I need 2530 runs get myself cranked up. How do you approach these two guys to make sure there on you know there on board with the fact that look this is a good thing that we're gonna use both."

" Well I think is you know decide to sell you know Jim -- from our running back coach has been. You know coaches national football league for close to twenty years and he does a great job of guys you know be more selfless and selfless. Much like the deal lie when you bring a wave of players and you know keeps them fresh they're much more effective -- You know -- the right kind of guy as the ball high character guys in those kind of players we try to get on our football team."

" Hey John thanks I appreciate it may go look at Dallas this week. Well appreciated Brian thanks for having."

" We're gonna go to our mailbag session now delivered by Sampson and his question comes from so -- he asks worse done and how does this give defense sublime and potential advantage over offensive line. A Dunn is basically. Where you have to Jason defense of linemen working in combination. Where one will cross the face of the other hoping to pick or pull the block of the -- linemen. With the second defense alignment looping around trying to get a free run at the quarterback. What it does is presents a tough combination it it requires two offensive lineman. And article harder guard and tackle. To work very closely together it be able to pass off the one defensive lineman. To the other and hope is as she did get two guys tied up with one. That allows extra -- to -- linemen to come around the edge Scot free at quarterback. If you have a question when asked me you're one of the coaches we have on the show you can -- coach speak at fox dot com."

" Obviously with all the hub -- about the Brett Favre -- New York Jets usually the injury report or lack thereof. We asked some of the coaches what their views are on how they prepare for and how they view it."

" Billy's pretty specific the guy hasn't injury you have to report some people. You know Peyton. A list of qualified people. Really to be safe -- we battled and that's what should do."

" I think what I do is I look forward on Friday more now now report on Wednesday there there. There are often. But the -- report coming here -- part -- whether. Are all doubtful. Problem."

" I've been the cynic that I am always kind of felt like questionable -- I question whether truly -- not. Doubtful whether the guys really hurt or not and likely that the guys you know is that accurate about what the -- the first place I think those. Things are now or -- a little bit of when I say apparently. He's got practice. You know -- or is limited. I'll look at that more you know what. What but. Or in the words -- practice. As you know. And have practice -- and play."

" What's with benefits continues tomorrow on foxsports.com. With the college experiment but who would they have in store."

" About college football like you've never seen a football. A -- host fighting that's doesn't Anaheim."

" That's fit for this week's version of coach beat them by Tampa. Next week we'll go back war veteran group of coaches -- we have a chance to visit but. Three Mike Mike Singletary spent the 49ers Mike Smith and Atlanta Falcons. And Mike McCarthy from Green Bay Packers. -- also have Jack Del Rio of the Jacksonville Jaguars. John Harbaugh from the hot ball more race. With the next Tuesday at the same time 1 PM eastern standard time on foxsports.com. -- The coach speak presented by -- part of it what would benefit with fourteen yet everywhere."
