" Now it's time."

" We don't go to speak with riot -- presented by Sam -- Mike Singletary speaks out of the signing -- fourth round draft pick Michael Crabtree. Cowboys head coach wade phillips' thoughts about the emergence of wild thought there. Mike Smith breaks down about -- aerial attack against the 49ers. Jack Del Rio tells us why that cat went pointless in Seattle all -- more on -- before Brian Billick presented by Sam self."

" I'm Brian Billick welcomed this week's edition of coach speak presented by Samsung. This week we got a great -- of coaches. John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens wait -- the Dallas Cowboys Jack Del Rio of the Jacksonville Jaguars Mike Singletary. San Francisco 49ers. And Mike Smith of the Atlanta felt. A lot of shifting topics talk about this week we're talking about some of the great receivers in the game both past and present. Talk about the quarterback rating -- good things and bad things about while we're gonna talk about some of the key matchup happened the last weekend. Joined now by John Harbaugh with with the Baltimore Ravens always you know coming off a loss is always a tough thing job and I'm interested. We all have perceptions about who's good who's not a obviously you saw the film on -- week you knew they were good football team."

" No doubt I mean I have to do is watch the tape and I would say is as good as we thought they were they're better than advertised. When we lined up against and I just they play hard they play with passionate. That kind of Martins created. What he's wanna create their very physical they play hard on defense they're very sound. Come off the ball or office finally comes off the ball -- back at quarterback talent at receiver they're pretty complete football team."

" You know even though you see that -- it's been awhile. You all have been so great against the run in particular. And so it's been so rare sense of backs been able to kind of get cranked up. Do you get a sense on the sideline when that does happen because it has been so rare for you. That there were there was well -- frustration or a sense of gotta can't believe guys I'm like this on us."

" Yeah you know I think we had a sense of urgency try to you know get it stopped and they had a couple of now maybe fifteen dollars in there that really the ones -- personal but there's no huge run there but. It was pretty steady they were getting three and four yards on first down anyway. And that's not something as you know we're used to we're used to -- no gainers you know most all of you know gainers and you know so that was something that we have to deal with -- balance it's reality I think it gives us a chance there to go to work and and do we need to players coaches scheme technique where those things are and make sure that we get back to plan. Run defense that we know we can."

" They've they've -- they've got a very good group of receivers and obviously tested your corners pretty good. I mean. Do you feels -- just they just had a good day and had a lot of guys going -- war. The technique your corners are some things you do that -- test -- in terms of the depth of -- quarterback."

" Well together do and they will they do do challenge in the slot you know and it creates mismatches in there against certain coverages. Because of the coverages to with a couple routes like like happens a lot of times but -- starters are battling. North feel like we've been -- aggressively -- and we wanna be wanna cover aggressively -- type final playoff you know twelve yards and but complete everything in front of us and had to scramble play were Carr Carson came -- left him. You know -- made -- got to feel the kind of dropped you know fox was had so that was the one really big plays they had. The one at the end was disappointing. You know there was an issue there -- little thing that happened but. You know we've just got to find a way to you know make those plays and we will mix their coverages up a little bit. Get a little bit better but overall. I'm not real to disappoint with the coverage and we can come up some place here in their thoughts or not it's not as bad as it."

" Just like the tape always it's never as good as it seems is never batted his -- what you see that tape you know we're not so disappointed in code. John thanks a lot good luck this week thanks coach art Ghraib anyway. There are so many teams out there -- a tipped ball here there called clear here or there could make him from a three into eighteen to five and OT the talk to the coaches little bit about. The parity in the league right now."

" The margin is really fine. Between them in the best work and and certainly when you're talking about anybody that's won a couple games versus anybody hasn't hasn't lost yet. There's there's just a small. Small look very very fine line separating those."

" From one to 32. If there's a whole lot of difference but when you start talking where we're at right now like that between five and only two and three. There's not a whole lot of different every week you can go out and play and have a different outcome. For one week to the next it's hard to be able to put your finger and say oh absolutely this team this to a three team is gonna get beat by just 1105 and -- I don't know how Coughlin could be those kind of observations given how what are razor thin difference at all between the teams this year. -- amazing you know. I think that they've started for them open and went."

" 41 actually amateurs -- finalized. Between the five -- 04132. And even the two and three teams and it's gonna play out here in the next few weeks. The screen pass can be an effective weapon for any offense in the national football let's take a look at the different types of screens being employed in the NFL today on Billick won -- one."

" The screen game has been a long -- tour office through the years. Part of -- typical in the screens how athletic. Defenders. Deep -- and defenders aren't an apple football their ability to. Read one thing -- react and come to the screen you had your traditional street which basically says quarterback -- But same age backup running back in this situation. Given about it to work recount. Act like he's protecting. Tackle set up field he's biting on short -- outside linebacker now thinks he's good in the sack of quarterback of the field. This honor guard and center worker combination here you know two or three out. Traditional outside green and green regardless that then hold teams responsible. First man outside -- center or the backside guard will now be the number two man depending upon what rushes. He's supposed to released right now please -- what is really at the last man. -- Creating basically why we play for the running back. Let up five point guard center or -- down against the defense with a convoy down the field. The seconds kind of screen we stole from the colleges yeah so we're very very much about a benefited. We'll find something we're still it take credit for me tomorrow. What you see in the college Davis found its way into the -- game. Is now the wide receiver screen to take somebody out of backfield typically. They running back next Titans wide receiver mostly about three man side formation. His job now come out while outside receivers they wonder too aggressive steps -- the field comeback kids -- there. -- back off to take that first defender out went down the field. The tide applied released that tackled short sent it out it's part of the screen. Somebody coming on the inside it will change inside pressure from the defense that allows the wide receiver wise ones that. Quick screen to get the ball you see typically did back again. From the initial block and you post them up immediately get back outside. You've got a whole bunch of angry people about my -- down figures say we're getting back to the outside but you guys completely -- hard. Percy -- in Minnesota. Jeremy active or dealt our guys are good very good -- and quick screens to the outside. And making plays downfield -- an open field."

" You'll become a coach before Brian Billick presented by -- Mike Singletary tells -- that we've seen Michael Crabtree help in the forty not. That and more -- we come back."

" L Sunday do."

" Welcome back we're joined by the graded coached male and a Falcons that dobbs coming huge win over San Francisco. Might we got to start with today and Roddy White that that that that that had to be exciting he'd he'd candidate yeah. Yeah that was really good -- to get -- one two. They like eight catches 200 yards and it was it was really nice idea that first touchdown was great play action class by. By by Matt -- ran right underneath it -- now. You know he took that 19 yards and that he got defeat if beaten big man can run that -- Well to do and and I had him."

" Francisco I've seen the games of the tapes. Going on the road. East coast to west coast going in December sisco a very good football team a very good defense a football team. You you can't be any happier about what you guys where would do."

" Yeah I was really proud of the way that our guys played yesterday and -- we handled the bye week very very well. We've addressed the number of issues that we felt like we needed to. And -- that is a very physical football team that that the 49ers haven't we went in there and that. Went toe to toe with them. Were for quite along time in -- It was a good big win for us we really needed that to finish off this first quarters you know we'd like breaking down in quarters and to be three in one in coming out the first quarters -- Is a good spot to be."

" One of the things I -- and obviously like a lot of teams a lot of your big plays come off play action fake anytime you can turn and capable of Michael Turner and in the good solid runner that he is. But I know also comes on sometimes it's hard for quarterbacks to really get good at turning their back to the defense. Coming out throwing the ball that seems to be doing that talk a bit about your your play action game how baker component that is of your past."

" Well -- As you know we're based on on one to run the football flew to complement that that the play action passes it is a big part of it and you know Matt has had a very good feel for. The defense and where the pressure is gonna become and he'll actually abort sometimes if if he knows that he's gonna have something that's coming off his backside. And not even go through the fate of the backed me going and continue to run the -- but man it. In tune to what's coming he'll get the ball out before the you know before the pressure gets there but. In a normal zone defense where he knows he knows we've got to block that he feels real good in the and he can work inside and work the shape he put the single I think -- corporate. Middle of the field open he can work that you have to think he's I think that the fun of the good quarterback all the great ones as you know. Work those you know work those guys with their eyes with their shoulders and and that's something that out of play action we have to do as well. Thanks Mike you know we had a quiet weekend in the NFL by wide receivers who we asked each coach what's best performance here oversaw while wide receiver."

" Terrell. You know people these these people have mixed feelings about him by. That's a big strong guy can throw coverage where -- play very good combination of of Montana and life of the most. Still old you know combination there and play the precision that they operate with. -- guy like Chris Carter. That he really appreciated probably appreciate more as time went on and they're clearly thinks he's got the belongs in the Hall of Fame."

" Will be great news. Right here after school here right. The other guys were bad -- field but. Over the coming guys. Tremendous work ethic and here and I'm just getting it done weekend."

" We are very right Randy Moss. Michael Irvin I think those three guys that come to my mind. If I were pleased to be joined by head coach of the 49ers Mike Singletary who you wanted to be head coach in the NFL --"

" You know what yeah I wanted to be it coaches and tell you what I'm very very thankful and very blessed. Ahead people like you. Really prepared me for things like this. And I headed about it and will come out of it and you know we'll come out swinging and will will get where we need to go. But you can get there without these guys."

" Can you really tell during the week of practice like last week did you have a sense that your teams don't play well not play well war. You know -- as a coach and I've long given up trying to figure I know if you don't practice well you probably not gonna play well. But I there's been times we had a great week of practice and then one out -- playbook Jimmy cents after the weekend."

" You -- it was a strange kind of weak because viewed preparing fourteen. That you know they had to -- a week ago of course. And you're trying to get a few -- that are they're one game in in their past Damon and they're just trying to get on track as well and I think ago. The other thing going into the game we had a couple of our guys injured earlier in the week so. They weren't practicing unit and I get in sync with the thing that needed to hear that happened needed to see. We've had four good weeks of work and in this past week wasn't the greatest. But. If it's -- our players I think he spoke volumes to our players liberals talk about we have great practice. Chance cigar where we're gonna play pretty doggone well."

" You know you -- added. Michael Crabtree finally in house. I don't remember. A player coming to a team has -- is this what. What's your general approach what are your expectations from Michael going for more kind timeframe do you have. What -- overall approach towards this 'cause this is you know this is the kind of uncharted territory here."

" Well I think the first thing descent -- coordinator. And receiver coach and kind of talked about the game plan would you guys he would you think. -- and I talked to craps review today. And you basically talked about his plans for the week. And I would Coleman knew you already had a -- who -- you -- you think about this week along -- and yes very long. But down you know we're we're just gonna sit down and and gold -- within it and and get all the work that we can't and kinda have a schedule. Where throughout the week you'll be weeks ago coach Sullivan the receiver coach in. You know he's gonna be working with someone Els. Even on Thursday and Friday. Going through the route to going to play books sold it to be handle all week and try to get him -- speed. Try to get a package for him for the first game back from the line."

" You have to be. Almost like -- quarterback coming off an injury. You have to have kind of a pitch count on him for the fear that you know someone in this situation typically. We'll come back in -- so hard to get back into it that they'll get hurt. Are you very do you have a number in your mind or an amount in your mind -- first couple games you'll you'll allow him to play."

" I think so what would just -- ease him into it and I can go home you'll keep our eyes on him in here and make sure that. You would -- the new with a good trainers and and everybody involved there. We cogent and just make sure that -- on top of it and we we proactive in terms of anything that could possibly happen."

" month that's great I appreciate it enjoy your week off grip I thank you very much all all in all probably two hours of yeah in attitude."

" Yielded goblet coached me for Brian Billick presented by stands on the Miles Austin the next Terrell Owens Wakefield serious thought when we return."

" Sunday --"

" Welcome back will be joined by the head coach the Dallas Cowboys Wade Phillips and this is our -- he would start segment and this week -- Miles Austin had a great day against Kansas City Chiefs."

" You know you got to feel pretty good win. -- you have a star receiver like Roy Williams go down and then you have a Miles Austin stood up and have a record day you gotta figure I've been going to church regular -- to get that."

" Yes on them having good for a finesse pitcher but. You know we've we've been expecting a lot of miles please come along way -- flee from Monmouth College. He's. He's really worked hard and we felt like who's gonna come along. This offseason we. We thought we might lose into the Jets they tried that they try to get him there for a little bit and then backed off. So. We would -- have come along all the time in order just exploded."

" And out like he didn't have the confidence before but when you -- back and now obvious with Jason Witten and you can either broke productivity of a guy Miles Austin that's. That's just gotta increase your comfort zone with what you could do to balance off those other guys temple."

" Sure it's. You know -- you know I don't know I don't know there's going to be a great great receiver but he certainly had a great day and I think -- getting opportunities so we're them. Replace him a lot of unemployed and and TI does wrestling games and and you know we get roared back I would use my -- big threat."

" You know when you look at the game in the numbers mean you guys had held a day it was 500 yards of offense looks like. Romo was playing well you ran the ball well but as usual penalties and turnovers can be the great equalizer."

" That's for sure you know we. We've been working on both those -- that that we don't have we wanna lower penalized teams but the last game and but we had way too many penalties and the antagonism turnover battle of course the most important battles score but. You know -- about. One. Is the biggest indicator -- and one's lost. When it takes lot of appreciative ever enjoy your time off thanks yeah we'll be off relies."

" All the talk today about the quarterback rating system or more accurately the passer rating system has -- actually know. Developed in 1973. And was a way of trying to create. A standard formula by which we could compare quarterback much like the SAT is tried to use to create a certain uniformity in measuring the aptitude measure the aptitude. Of students. As you can see as we put up on the screen here it's a very complex comp -- convoluted formula. That takes into account completion percentage yards per attempt. TD interception. And that's all well and go to the problem is it leaves out two very important components. Acts. And big plays down the field both major determinant in terms of success in the national football. I know quarterbacks in this league who will specifically take a sack rather than throw the ball away. Because of the way -- incompletion. Might affect their quarterback were passer rating. I don't know a single head coach a assistant or personnel man in the National Football League that actually uses the passer rating system. As a way of quantifying. The abilities of one quarterback. Compared to another have never want that meeting when someone is presented well player a has a quarterback rating of 87 and player B has quarterback rating of 75. -- player a is better. So it's one of those things where it's a nice little statistic is great test for. People like myself in the media or commentators or to put in the paper to give them the basic fanned an idea of the effectiveness of one quarterback to another but I don't again I don't know of anybody that uses as actual qualifier. Of the ability of one player versus another I'm Brian Billick this is my hand sign LED and that's how I see. But let's hear what's on the the other coaches have to say about this."

" Our quarterback in particular David Gerrard does a lot of things impact and possibly -- game that won't -- quarterback -- that may be doing something -- You know that a lot of different things -- quarterback and a impact the game. I don't know how it's compiled that we use in the sense you know we we look where we stand as far as defending quarterback. You know what was your quarterback rating against us -- how to -- depending on. But what is based -- touchdown passes and receptions and or big completion percentage and yards. That. I have no idea. If the guy has -- there."

" Bad day you have -- you know I don't know in his ratings I just think it comes down to the situation in. And you know this situation their quarterback and -- your team -- or put an end. Put him an opportunity. Permission to win to go off. It is very few that were."

" I have a hard time understanding how they come up with numbers if it. I really don't put a whole lot of a lot of thought it would mean I like to look at their percentage of completions. And they -- play. Right now we're joined by the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach territorial your game there -- couple games where there's -- job dramatic swing. From one week to the next. KQ how do you account for that can can you account for the you know the way the players approach I'm sure you had a good week of practice going in this week."

" Yeah that was good I don't know that it was great I had some concern going in. About the way to play -- coming together but. I thought we rallied late in the week I think the biggest thing. Is that where it snowballed in a positive way force at home against Tennessee is snowballed and a negative way force. In Seattle you know and though. I mean really it was three not that after the first quarter and you know we that we were holding often and often as we go 53 and outs in the in the second quarter that's what we -- office. And they pulled away."

" Well I'm glad John Fox Carolina last week at Carolina and Washington John talked about. Dealing with his team that was a 13 at the time and and they won that great one run last year but he is you know what we were two and three at this point last year. The differs from what we are now won't we were than we you know we -- we kind of eke out a win here you can and we're the same team. Yet yet the record's not sane but that's what you gotta get the players to recognize you know what. The record really doesn't matter you are who we are and that happens to go one way or not the I don't know I just find that whole dynamic pass."

" Yeah that that -- though the whole thing about you're not letting despair sit and Michael you have that oh well feeling oh my god issue doesn't matter feeling you definitely need to guard against that. And and I think I think there is something to the momentum of the season you know you if you start to do things well and you have success and then you know we've kind of success breeds of success in the kind of -- and so."

" Thanks Jack good luck next week. Now it's time for the mailbag delivered by -- Barnes dale and -- I'll Michigan writes wasn't -- stop more prevalent wide receivers are still big DB's are still small just don't seem to see it anymore. He either fade stop I had really become prevalent in the National Football League over the last couple years DBs will tell you it's almost impossible to stop. When throw correctly the idea that you've got that natural of that big wide receiver in the small DB that you alluded to. That they constantly have to have that. Threat of the down the field row and by throwing Justin behind door on the back shoulder of the receiver it's almost impossible for the DB to defend against it. It is a very difficult ball to throw and quite frankly like anything in the league once you've seen enough of it. DBs get better and better at playing so I think it's a combination of the two I think it more has to do with how difficult to throw it is the timing that it takes you really have to be you're the receiver quite awhile. To develop that new -- of exactly where to throw that to be any good."

" If you have a question for -- one of the coaches you can email coach be at fox dot com or fall -- on Twitter at coach. Once with benefits continues on Wednesday with the politics -- as to what they've got going."

" This week on the college experience. He college football experience I've never seen it before and I -- The reverend most hot college girls fighting mascots. And did we mention hot girls with pillows. There's a reason it's called apology experiment and you enough men who want to admit it."

" Well that's it for this edition of coach speak. Join us next week we'll talk -- round of coaches did that include of course Rex Ryan and Wade Phillips. We should join us here every week every Tuesday on ones with benefits for coach B. 1 PM eastern standard time on foxsports.com."
