" This week on coach -- would Brian Billick presented by Samsung. John Fox would tell us out the Panthers got her groove back. Plus we'll spotlight increasing importance of a passing attack although I'm more coach thing with Brian Billick presented by -- up."

" I'm Brian Billick welcomed coach speak got a great lineup coaches for you today was buried in topics we're gonna have a chance talk -- John Fox Rex Ryan. Jim Schwartz. Jim -- Wade Phillips. We're just off the show with head coach of the Green Bay Packers Mike McCartney and Mikey had kind of a special thing happened after obviously a big win Korea. Coaches Roy is given out game balls and it can be kind of -- think Richard team gave you a game ball that that felt that that -- good."

" Is definitely special oil -- a -- game ball problems for you don't you almost want -- about it but you never want. They're wanna turn away a game balls but to come from new players. There it was definitely important when Frost's specifically. The last couple weeks we've gone through so detrimental."

" might reduce something called fox talks reading something -- I've done for years and years and you do the same and we talk a little bit about. The idea of the interactive nature of explosive plays not only giving them but getting them. Not giving them up giving up just like journal -- not enough not to turn the ball over you gotta get turnovers well. You're fox talks rating is is very good in the top five. Does that not and and yet obviously was on the biblical teams you have it -- doesn't really come down to a simple as. The pressures that you had on the quarterback that can negate all the positive things that you have going on in terms of big plays not given up big plays turnover ratio that it's been very good for you guys."

" That was not -- because they're really good falls and explosive game floated for the defense we've. Our goals I have no later they're more explosive gains a big play opportunities that we convert to office we're we're looking for for less on defense all. You know devoted you know negative plays is really -- or -- hang of what the sides but you know like like -- that it. On the big play opportunities that we've been had gone off and released or point production I think. -- time again I go back to mock or or control of years back in Kansas City -- you know going through the statistics and -- about it and really. Wouldn't generate points there is on every series -- using your big play that that occurs before that so. That's his best thing for us is to try to train him create situations in practice recruitment training camp and no we're doing a lot of positive things but we we do need to take away the."

" thanks Mike. Now on our Samsung he would star segment -- talked all the coaches about one of the great ones Tom Brady."

" When all the physical. Tools. You know in my mind always look at you know this guy have leadership. Question. He's about as good as."

" He could make an accurate pass and everybody looks -- arm strength and accuracy is every bit as important. Or is more important he has both as a strong arm but he is extremely accurate passer particularly on moving target. Such a great base when he throws so. As he's dropping very rhythmic and the when he sets that base and anchors. He he can make all kinds of throws and just think you Sosa consistent player. We've managed the game -- would just rattled in the -- throws with us from this place if I was game management you know what's going on all of them on the record about. And throw the ball. This carry that came out throwing the ball all the time. I. Ability of that person to temple football you look at the top quarterbacks -- I think -- almost three characteristics and now he's the number one."

" Part we're joined the Rex Ryan wrecks we're talking and all the other coaches viewed him up close and personal what makes Tom Brady so specials quarterback. Well you know first off you know he's got the size and he's got all the physical attributes would look for a quarterback -- make all the throws. Has got the armed throw it deep in as a touch -- everything -- But I also think things that he does is he's got an unbelievable -- of fuel in the pockets of his pocket awareness is unbelievable league knows the protections and knows where -- Steps slide do whatever to avoid the you know avoid the rush he protects the football. He's got all the intangibles one I think if if he has a ball and you think -- chance to win -- how much time left -- so. He's one of those special players and and you know obviously the three soup -- speak for themselves and has as the winner. And you know that your draft and a football team. Do you have anybody you want you probably start with him."

" Rick Gaza did an instinct piece of the Dallas morning news talking about a 300 yard passing game -- was the good -- usually mean you have to you have to throw. And actually a lost. A majority of the time that you threw anytime you threw over 300 yards. That has changed doubts about seven to have 5% of the time if you throw over 300 yards. You win the game. Are we seeing a major shift. You -- perspective of the league in terms of what it takes to win."

" I think you are I think you're seeing you know. What kind of quarterback you have. You look at Pittsburgh that takes a prime example. Where they used to run it more than any team in the league now they were effective. We were effective but just run in the ball more than any team in the league. We get a bunch of wins in the Super Bowl and things. What now you know even that same Pittsburgh team and really this same raven team. They feel good about their quarterback situation and there -- and out so they're they're more likely to throw for 300 of the may be rushed for a hundred so. It is you know it is different that way I think I still think you have to be -- I think you have to build the run the football. When you get ahead you know run it when they know you're going to be a little you know when they know you need to run and -- withdrawal when they know you need to throw it in. You know right now. I think that's what the league's look at that you know how how proficient at quarterback that you have is and and you know you're exactly right is New Orleans throws and all over the place yet they also run the ball to. So I I still think you have to build a stop the you don't have to -- run the football when it counts and and you know as well as obviously deal throwing and if you get behind you have to bill through."

" sounds great. -- have Superman. I looked as we get all of Manhattan they we get an easy task."

" Now time for a segment how I see it presented by Samsung. Obviously everybody is all abuzz about the fourth down decision made by Bill Belichick in the Sunday night game with the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. And as a former coach I'm always interested not necessarily in the outcome because we've talked many times about the decision process itself. Is. Something that happens outside of the excess or the failure of the play in the National Football League we -- you -- one subtle and that's it -- you were right if it didn't you were wrong but as a coach you have to step back and look at the process and how you arrived at that decision. Bill Belichick obviously as successful as any coach that's been in this game and if anybody knows Bill Belichick he's not there impetuous or hap hazard. You know there was a thought process he would just decide you -- let's see if we can go for this I think some of the factors going in. Had to do with the fact that they were on the road. That the Indianapolis COLT offense had been up and down the field the three previous series. That he saw as a team he had confidence in his quarterback in his office and keep in mind now over the last five years dealt Belcher has gone Ford on fourth down. More than any coach in the National Football League. -- you know that that fosters a mentality the players were caught off guard this is something that they do and they felt like that the odds of completing that. And over the last five years he's better than 85%. On converted on fourth and one. That they felt the odds of that were better to give them as bill would say my best chance to win rather than punting and giving the ball back to. Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts so there is always the thought process that goes into the outcome is simply the outcome. I'm Brian Billick this is my hand on LED and that's how I he. Now let's hear what's on the other coaches had to say about this very topic."

" Stop that notion that ultimately use as. Yeah I think a lot of those decisions -- builds things and you know based on how the games go based on that -- just you know who you're playing against -- really kind of the momentum of the game."

" When you have Tom Brady is that your quarterback. You probably feel pretty good about you pick him up two yards and I think that's that's probably what it came down to give Peyton Manning on the other side. You know so that's. You know I'm sure that that -- into what we need to take into account is your personnel. -- one thing to say hey it's fourth down one. You know -- midfield we're gonna go on for a first down you know if if you're not equipped to be able to do that that would get the first down. And that's that they you know it's not a good decision I just think the flow of the game. The momentum of the game or are things you did you have to throw on a -- you try to do as much planning as you can. In your game plan but there's there there is -- them. That said those factors your decision right."

" dump him Ford will join at the thought about defensive gaps and techniques. That in Warwick coach before Brian Billick presented by Sam secretary."

" Welcome back. We're pleased to be joined right now by Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox job a couple inch think things over the weekend I mentioned your perspective I saw an inch to an article by Rick Gosling of course you know Rick from the bills morning news. And basically the thrust of the -- near perfect -- to talk to because you guys are still so much of the called old school called the predominant theory of you play good you can chew on the ball you don't turn the ball over which will always win it used to be you threw for over 300 yards that was a bad thing because you lost like 6065%. Of the time because it -- you have to throw too much. Those numbers have substantially changed up to the point where if you throw for over 300 yards you're winning -- of the 5% of the time. How much of -- fundamental shift are we making in this league with regard to you know what. You've got to throw the ball where you're gonna have a tough time when."

" Well there's no doubt Rodham out of my mind that the rules have changed it to open up -- I'm not call holding like they used to. You know -- Aaron for the first time this year that if you double team there's an old. So you know there's. Have you paid you know -- for instance a lot of money. You know the rules are -- to a point where. You know you may not gonna take full advantage of those mismatches like you were in the past. I think. You know the advent you know the franchise quarterback you know everybody's looking for that. You know others they're paying him a lot of money and they're gonna utilize them so. You know others the contact rules really helped -- No question in my mind it. The rules have been changed to. Opened up the passing game and if Olerud. Scoring easily so that does not surprise me and Rick. An excellent writers and dad does a lot of research most respect forms -- He does all of those trends and as it."

" Does that. Then put you as an organization going forward. In a mindset that as you know what if this is where it's going may -- we have to change some of our ideas -- who we go get what our mentality is in terms of what we thought wins in this league."

" But I question I think everybody you know is known for sometime quarterbacks at key positions a lot of guys looking for quarterbacks lose. You know and but as a team Italy does not try and improve. It's been about five or six teams are looking to improve the lot of them are. Because it's such critical position and as hard line. It's very expensive. -- like currency. To get a quarterback whether it's early in the afternoon three games. Sometimes does dumb luck. Those. Guys on that so. That couple hours that changed and you've got available mostly in the old school guys mean. You know people stacked the box to stop -- again you know -- campaign -- and so. No matter what your philosophy is. You know you need to do blow -- people on defense can dictate what you do."

" Hi John good luck on short week had presented by. Now Billick won -- one we're gonna talk about something you've probably heard a great many times but still don't know what it is 'cause we're talking about gaps. And defense of techniques."

" What the questions I'm asked most often is about gap defense and offense of death. They hear the -- all the time offense is trying to run it. Downhill with the aid will be different wars defense is trying to negotiate its defensive linemen into an AB your C gap or they're bringing in linebackers. Down into doubt -- pretty safety. Definitely the eight man box to account for -- let's talk about exactly what those capsule -- most people. It is it is. Walking inside out you can get out. Both strong and weak and that's how they're both things -- is that gap between the center and go. That's what you guard tackle gap to speak out. The tackle tight end gap is the -- gap you correspondent on both sides. And -- outside the tight end and it's usually have to have a tight end presence. There's all the way out into the -- you don't hear reference to that as much as much a student a BC -- Had a gap discipline that -- certain way to force club on the -- chance for instance to identify they may very well tell the running back. There are gonna want me inside zone. That they want to shoot today hip of that tackle. And then this is that plays that will cut back from the B gap all the way to the back side -- them. So one running back this -- that he sang the star players side but that it can -- it can't hit here. Back into the age gap or hit all the way back in the excite me -- if you try to give him some focus bodies gaps where he might run from a defense -- point. Particularly those teams that have gap integrity. Or we'll -- back up a team that is it true -- that means in this instance if you haven't candor that his head up. Head off guard. He may have true gap responsibility in this instance he spoke to Jack forgot about. And take -- KN BB gap depending upon his defensive responsibility. If you're one gap team every defense the climate is told all right this is your gap to five -- One gap team and bad defense bad. And I tackle I'm making told you have to have fought -- age gap responsibility. And you can has front side B gap responsibility that -- one of the bat first. We're a strong safety whoever's coming down. Now have to be responsible for the seeing deaths you hear that term. Defense is happy to have gap integrity and it's something very specific as to where they belong in attack you off."

" Here we just a segment on on that bizarre language of gaps and defense of alignment and techniques. A gap B gap three technique by take the six technique that type stuff how you know. I can't I can't remember when we did talk about like that didn't mean how long has it been in and -- that -- have lasted forever hasn't."

" Yes it's been and they lexicon cents seem like football was bad and everybody speaks that same language and everybody has different terminology on defense. But that's what when you label gaps that way when you label techniques that wage is people common ground to be able tall football. Have you ever -- pleased with the didn't. Called the gap in the -- and that -- you know some people rather a six technique called an eight technique and I've heard people call seven technique a little bit different but. You know -- attitude technique theory all of those and they stay pretty consistent now that I've ever heard anybody say anything other than a gap -- Pepsi yet."

" Are we see enough fundamental change I mean obviously with the rule changes protect any quarterback defense and -- their terms. Obviously it's long move that way but it we truly see if he change in the way this league operates in terms of you know play good defense -- on the ball wins championships but. No you pretty much are gonna have to throw the ball to win the championship now."

" Well I think so I think it there's definitely -- change and you definitely have to vote Baldwin in this league now. It's very rare that you can -- good enough in the run game and you're good enough on defense. To be able to dominate that way they're very few teams that can do that. -- somebody playmakers on offense and you wanna be able to spread the ball out to those things. And offenses are so much more efficient in the passing game our men how to do it got. Thanks Jim."

" Let's take a minute now what could see where we are."

" Fox talks -- string combination certainly it still the top and you can see why both Indianapolis new ones are undefeated. Green Bay is a strange -- our fullest right now even though they're playing better. The fox -- reading so good for them at all about the facts and what they're giving up. San Diego and Philadelphia having just played one another you can see they go about it a little bit different. In terms of San Diego. Much better terms of the explosive plays. On the Philadelphia doing a great job getting the turnovers so the fox talk -- so far -- holding court. Because -- still all about big plays and turnovers were NC over the next couple months or next couple games I should say just how important is different shoeless."

" Gillick -- Wade Phillips and him -- discussed their big week eleven matchup in the NFC he. That won't -- I think we'll Brian Billick --"

" Welcome back coach speak we're joined by Wade Phillips had coached the Dallas Cowboys and obviously. The redskin cowboy. Rivalry that you view but we -- the Cowboys along with your front Texas. Can you really appreciate. That's the sense of the size this rivalry given the time you've been down. Alex arm and you know all the stands and activism planted just so long and and then you know when they changed divisions around the world Dallas stayed with you know. Washington and Philadelphia new York and I think that he. Just added to the fuel. Of those and those games -- they play each other so long and had Greg probably. Probably with all of them but the Redskins are in the special. You know we all grown up and -- you play good defense run the ball wins championships defense wins championship offense sells tickets but. There's there was a particular. Stick a statistic that's come because of the change of great get used to be threw for 300 yards in a loss to -- it means you were behind and had to make up. About 40% of the time you'd win it's up to 75% of the time. That you when you throw for 300 yards or more you win the game. Ryan have we've gone through it a real substantive. Change in terms of what wins in this league because the rules because of the talent for a reason."

" Now thanks so I'm and a it's been yeah the last I don't know except maybe ten years I don't know but it. Yeah you don't have to have the best differently -- one that's mr. Before that before was a big factor we've had we've had middle of the road differences. Although they play good. You know I I think they played better than that sometimes but. You know we've had some. Prolific offenses in. One of the world does that change the way you conduct yourself as an organization it's in terms of what it is you have to go get to be successful. Well how many hours of good players on almost the ball. But yeah that's where you put your money and in some cases not I think you have to. You know I'm course I'm a different coach I really believe you have to have some stars on offense. And play makers to be able to move the football. I think you know coach and is great but if you don't have that talent there. It's awfully hard to move the football defensively and get away with some things but not great talent and and can hang in there and offensively. You know you don't have a quarterback you don't have. -- good running back you don't have receivers. And really can hurt you."

" Judge Jim zorn the Washington Redskins got a big game come up against outs we just finished with Wade Phillips. Let me ask you something you're new to the Washington Dallas rivalry. Can you still get the full grasp of it being new to that that that great rivalry."

" Yes I I don't know quite get the full because it's been for a lot of years of but I remember the first time watching a rival game. When Clint Longley had to come in for Roger Staubach and he threw a touchdown pass to win the game. And what news that wasn't really legendary. You know I mean that that was a legendary play. And and that has lasted all through these years it is it's a great rivalry one that. You know well will be here when you know. Years down the road. Much like I'll win when I was in the AFC west with the Oakland Raiders. There was definitely. A strong dis like for those two clubs. -- and it -- gets personal took it does. Green Green Bay Chicago. It was you know those those kinds of games. You -- those games not smiling and I I think they're just so they're just so physical. Usually come out of those games just exhausted win or lose you're you're just you're not smiling."

" You know Jim much is being talked about bill Belichick's decision to go -- on that fourth down and backed up and and that's not amount -- should talk about that specifically. I mentioned talking about. The decisions you have to make as a head coach going thwart the two point play. Going for on fourth down in a situation like that or punting or what do you would've been multiple decisions that we. Like -- did agree trick play that you had this week. You know when to pull the trigger on that okay now we're gonna run that talk a little bit about that process whether how it -- systems and then when you is there a coach have to make the decision OK now it's time to do that."

" In a trick play like that it hit it if there's a lot involved won it takes practice time so we practice that play. During the week not just that week either it was a couple weeks before that we started working on that why. And then it has to be called at the right time you have I think as a head coach you have to feel confident that the executions going to be there. We almost blew it by going -- ten guys on the field. When we had called the play. And then not you know I I stayed with that I decided that you know. It it sort of look like it may be a fake I mean a fake field goal parts. Because -- backed up and he's our partners so maybe they thought it was just going to be up our punt anyway I stayed with -- the execution was there that's. That was. A decision that had been worked on for a while. That the decision gulf war on fourth and one I had one of those in the game as well and we didn't get it we didn't get the first down. Those are a little more difficult than. The wind the direction. You're you're you know the situation. How how we. What the momentum as a what you think your defense can do those things all come into play with a decision like that and they have to be made. Very very quickly -- thanks -- in -- later what's with benefits continues tomorrow with the college experiment with they have stores."

" politics here. Think college football experience I never seen it. Okay."

" Thanks for joining us. Next week hope you'll join us on Tuesday for months with benefits on coach before have. Jack still real Mike Singletary among other."
